Brian Short, Director of Emergency Services for Vance County, made his first report to the Board of Commissioners during their regular meeting this past Monday evening.
Short informed commissioners that during the month of January, 6,971 pieces of equipment were used to respond to 5,928 calls.
Commissioner Danny Wright asked if the report determined the cost allocation for the joint City of Henderson and County of Vance program.
Short responded by saying that the funding is a 50-50 split, and that the greater number of calls by city or county residents could change by 500 calls each month.
Danny Wright also asked about hang-up calls. Short informed the board that hang-ups are treated as emergencies until otherwise known.
Commissioner Eddie Wright asked Short what was meant by the term “escort”. Short said that the classification is used whenever anyone is escorted from one place to another.
Commissioner Deborah Brown asked for an explanation of the code “investigate” on the report’s breakdown of calls. Short informed her that the code is a classification that is used for calls that do not fit any other criteria. He used the example of a call where it was reported that someone was throwing a stick into a tree to steal pecans.
Brown asked if those types of calls were responded to. Short told her that there is a response to all calls.
