The Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics is an international series of relays by Law Enforcement Officers to raise money for the Special Olympics. A Torch Run is held each year in every state throughout the United States and in 25 countries around the world. Officers carry the torch to signify the achievements and the personal courage of Special Olympics athletes.

The public can support Special Olympics by purchasing a T-shirt. For a shirt, contact Police Lt. I.W. Robinson (252.431.6061), who is the local coordinator for the event.
The two and half mile run will begin at the Henderson Police Department on Breckenridge Street. From there, it will continue south on Garnett Street to Dabney Drive. It will then turn onto Oxford Road and continue to the city limits at Sunset Gardens.
Assistant City Manager Frank Frazier will open the special ceremony with remarks. Program speakers will be Henderson Police Chief Keith Sidwell and Sheriff Peter White. Sidwell and White will light the torch.
