Raleigh — U.S. Rep. Bob Etheridge (D-Lillington) today announced he will select a high school junior from the Second Congressional District for nomination as a Congressional Page in the U.S. House of Representatives for fall 2008.
Juniors who live in the Second District who will be at least 16 years old by August 31, have at least a 3.0 academic grade point average in core subjects and are U.S. citizens or green-card holders are invited to apply.
“Serving as a Page in the U.S. House of Representatives is a unique experience that provides students with access to the inner-workings of Congress and our democracy,” said Etheridge. “I encourage all eligible students in the Second Congressional District to take advantage of this opportunity.”
Pages are students who are hired to serve as support staff for the U.S. House of Representatives. Pages live in the House Page Residence Hall and take classes in the House Page School. Pages report to work after classes, delivering correspondence, legislative material and packages within the Capitol complex, answering phones and assisting Members of Congress. Pages in the fall term serve from August 31, 2008 to January 24, 2009.
Students who are interested in applying must complete an application form that can be found online or by calling 1-888-262-6202. The application and three letters of recommendation from school officials, community or religious leaders, must be received by June 25 in Etheridge’s Raleigh Office at 333 Fayetteville St., Suite 505, Raleigh, NC 27601. Applicants should leave the “Member Certification Form” blank.
An outside panel of educators and local leaders will review the applications and select Etheridge’s nominee.
