County assembles EMS advisory committee

During the Committee Reports period of the meeting of the Vance County Board of Commissioners on July 7, 2008, County Manager Jerry Ayscue reported that the county’s Public Safety Committee discussed the appointment of an EMS advisory committee.

The committee was recommended by a recent Fire/EMS study completed by an outside firm.

The committee will consist of:

  • Three EMS representatives – county captains
  • Two citizens at large
  • Chief Danny Wilkerson
  • Dr. Michael Smith, Medical Director
  • One representative from the Maria Parham Medical Center
  • President of the Vance County Firefighters Association
  • EMS training instructor at Vance-Granville Community College
  • According to Ayscue, the county is still looking for names to fill the citizen at large positions.

The county manager told board members that the committee will review, study, and make recommendations.

“Once done, they will have completed their task,” Ayscue said.

Commissioner Scott Hughes stated that he thinks an EMS study before a fire study is “backwards”. With that mention, he moved to approve the request to form the committee.

    The motion passed unanimously.
