HPD “Power Shift” implementation and activity


One of the goals of the Henderson Police Department’s ongoing reorganization plan has been the implementation of a “Power Shift” component within the Operations Division.

The Power Shift was formed to fight criminal activity at the street level within the City of Henderson.

The officers assigned to this unit assist and coordinate with the Criminal Investigation Division, Drug Unit, and Patrol Section using a geographical-based enforcement strategy involving investigations of crimes against persons and property.

The Power Shift is comprised of officers with training in proactive law enforcemnt methods as well as the ability to adapt to the ever-changing atmosphere and mode of operatios of crimnal elements within the city.

The Power Shift began operation on July 31, 2008. The shift consists of one lieutenant, one sergeant, and four patrol officers.

Since the inception of this unit, the officers have been aggressively concentrating on quality of life crimes such as criminal gang activity, property crimes, robberies, prostitution, and street-level narcotics offenses.

The goal of the Power Shift is to reduce crime and to improve the quality of life for the citizens of Henderson.

Below is an accumulation of the work the officers produced over the last two weeks of operation:

  • Non-Custodial arrests – 30

  • Marijuana seized – 90.8 grams
  • Crack cocaine seized – 4.3 grams
  • Powder cocaine seized – .3 grams
  • Ecstasy pills seized – 4 dosage units
  • Prescription pills seized – 11
  • US currency seized – $545
  • Handguns seized – 2
  • Traffic citations issued – 197
  • Total charges issued – 242
  • Total checkpoints – 4
  • On August 17, 2008, members of the Power Shift conducted a special operation called “Scratch Off”. This operation targeted local merchants for selling lottery tickets to underage individuals.

    The clerk was cited for underage sale of lottery ticket and released.

    The scheduled court date for those cited is September 22, 2008.
