60-70 houses demolished since city attorney hired

Code Compliance Department Director Corey Williams submitted a report at Monday’s Henderson City Council meeting on residential house removals in Henderson.

Williams said that the next targeted enforcement area of the city’s minimum housing standards will begin on Garnett Street going north from Andrews Avenue.

City Attorney Billy Strickland, whose resignation becomes effective on September 1, said that 60-70 houses have been demolished since he began work with the city. Praising Williams’ work, he added that 40 rehabilitations of houses have been done, many without city intervention.

Henderson Mayor Pete O’Geary commented that such demolitions “make a big difference in the city”.
