City will not add teller at Ops Center

Interim City Manager Ed Wyatt told the Henderson City Council on Monday evening that the city is not in a position to add a teller window at the City Operations Center on Beckford Drive for the purpose of water bill collection.

A request for a teller window was made by resident Dave Stallings during the City Council meeting of July 21, 2008.

One of the premises for locating the current city hall building on Rose Avenue was ease of access in the payment of water bills to the city.

Council member Lonnie Davis told Wyatt that he was “glad you’ve taken that direction.”

Member Mike Inscoe asked if there is a drop box for bills in the operations facility. Assistant City Manager Frank Frazier said that there is no box in the building currently. Assistant Finance Director Sandra Wilkerson said that a deposit box might be “helpful” there.

Council member Mike Rainey asked Wyatt if he would look at a scheduled time to have a teller at the window in the Operations Center. It was determined in the ensuing discusion that pulling a person from the main window at City Hall would slow down the collection process which already has substantial queues during peak times.

Inscoe asked if the city has looked into credit/debit card payments. Sandra Wilkerson responded that “someone is coming to talk about several different options of payment”.

About 60% of Henderson’s water customers pay at the window.
