To the editor: Watch your step!

Legendary Alabama football coach, Paul “Bear” Bryant, was recruiting a standout high school quarterback at the young man’s home in LA.

(That’s lower Alabama to those of us from God’s country.) He tossed the boy a football and said, “Son, can you pass this?”

The football standout thought and thought and finally responded, “Sure, if I can swallow it first.”

That’s the way Vance Countians feel about the county water system.

First, we were forced to swallow a lame, ill-conceived, incredibly expensive, fiscally irresponsible plan.

Then, we were asked to pass the bond referendum that would allow the monstrosity to be forced upon us.

Commissioners, what happened to the Citizen Water Committee? Who was on it? Did it ever meet? Is this fiasco the result of a citizen committee’s work? You need not answer; we know the truth.

Citizens were never asked for our opinions or our input. This plan was designed by and for bureaucrats, who insist on building empires, increasing their power and control, and making more people dependent on them.

This whole project doesn’t pass the smell test! Don’t make us step in it!
