Cops arrest convicted felon for firearm violation
Chief K.L. Sidwell of the Henderson Police Department reports that members of his department’s Narcotics Unit conducted an investigation that lead to the arrest of a convicted felon for possession of a firearm.
City developing new performing arts center app.
Henderson City Manager Ray Griffin reported during yesterday’s regular meeting of the city council that the city is developing a Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) application for the Embassy Foundation’s proposed performing arts center.

Vance Board of Ed. to hold budget work session
The Vance County Board of Education will hold a budget work session on Monday, October 13, 2008 at 5:30 p.m. in the Administrative Services Center break room at 1724 Graham Avenue in Henderson.

Last Monday, Vance County Commissioner Deborah Brown named Pinkie V. Hayes a Community Hero. Hayes received a framed certificate and $25. Hayes is also the Chief Judge of Elections for the Townsville voting district where Brown is running for re-election to the commission, as pointed out yesterday in a letter to the editor by Jamie Harris in yesterday’s Daily Dispatch. Was Brown’s designation of Hayes as a Community Hero (a distinction that Hayes no doubt deserves) political pandering or coincidence? …
