Raleigh — United States Attorney George E.B. Holding announced that in federal court today William Clement Carroll, Jr., 40, of Henderson, North Carolina, pleaded guilty before United States District Judge Terrence W. Boyle to a criminal indictment charging him with conspiracy to distribute and possess with intent to distribute a quantity of heroin in violation of Title 21, United States Code, Sections 841 and 846, and possession of a .38 caliber revolver in furtherance of a drug trafficking offense.
The indictment was filed on December 18, 2008.
Carroll admitted that he participated in the heroin conspiracy from June 2008 until July 15, 2008, the date the Henderson Police Department executed a search warrant at his home and recovered approximately 36 dosages of heroin, $2,054 in US currency, and other evidence of drug trafficking, including the firearn and ammunition.
Carroll was on house arrest and wearing an electronic monitoring bracelet for a prior conviction when the warrant was executed.
Carroll’s criminal history includes a conviction for second degree murder, multiple convictions for felony possession of cocaine, and multiple misdemeanor assaults. He faces up to twenty years imprisonment, a fine of up to $1,000,000, and three years of supervised release following his term of confinement for his participation in the heroin conspiracy. He also faces a mandatory minimum sentence of five years to be served consecutively to any other sentence imposed for possession of a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking offense, a fine of up to $250,000 and five years supervised release following his term of confinement.
In response to this case, Mr. Holding stated, “One can’t help but be shocked by the brazenness of a drug trafficker who is conducting his illegal business while under house arrest with electronic monitoring. We look forward to sentencing in this case where the defendant’s brazenness can be met with the court’s justice.”
