This from City Hall:

The City of Henderson Street Resurfacing Project for FY08-09 is scheduled to begin on Monday, June 8, 2009.

Barrett, Irvin and Jordan Contractors Inc. of Durham, NC will be performing the work for the city which will include the milling (removal) of the top layer of asphalt on Chestnut Street (from Granite St. to Burwell Ave.), Winder St. (from Clark St. to Harriett St), and Wakefield Ave. (from Parham St. to Water Tower) . These streets will then be overlaid with new asphalt. Other streets to be overlaid with asphalt but no milling to take place include Crest Road (from Old Oxford Road to Sunset Circle), Beck Ave. (from Andrews Ave. to Virginia Ave.). Perry St. (from Garnett St. to Dead end), Country Club Dr. (from Dogwood Dr. to Woodland Rd.), Pinkston St. (from Water St. to end of Street) Dorsey Ave. (from Raleigh Rd. to Young Ave.) , Lynne Ave. (from Dabney Dr. to David Ave.), Radio Lane (entire length), Carolina Ave.(from College St. to Montgomery St) . Completion of all streets on the list is subject to available funds.

This work will extend into the next couple of weeks; however during the actual resurfacing, individual streets are generally closed only for a few hours. If you reside on the section of the street being resurfaced, do not park your car on the street during the daytime hours so that this work can be performed in a safe and timely manner. While this work is being done, these streets will be blocked off to perform this work therefore you will be required to detour around the streets being worked on.

Please be cautious and alert when driving around these areas to insure your safety as well as the company performing this work. If you have any questions you may call Assistant City Manager Frank Frazier at 252.430.5703.
