I-85 contruction update

Here’s an update solicited by Bill Edwards, President of the Henderson-Vance Chamber of Commerce from the North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) about the re-opening of ramps and the estimated completion time of the I-85 project currently underway in Vance County. We thought it might of interest to readers who are not privy to the Chamber’s email updates.

Bill,

I will be glad to answer your questions. I understand that these closures are of great concern to the local business community. The plans for this project included some time restrictions for each of the ramp/interchange closure. As a result, we are working to re-open these ramps in a timely manner.

Access to I-85 North Bound from US 158 should be restored by the week of July 20, 2009. Access to both ramps at Ruin Creek Rd. should be restored by the week of July 26, 2009. The on ramp to I-85 South at Dabney Drive will remain closed until late October or early November.

Traffic will remain in the two lane-two way pattern until November, however the ramps mentioned above will be open utilizing the median crossovers.

Let me know if you need additional information.

Thanks,

Boyd Tharrington
