Senator Doug Berger would like to invite all citizens, civic leaders, and public officials in Franklin, Granville, Vance, and Warren counties to a 7th Senatorial District Town Hall Meeting on Thursday, July 23, 2009.
At this town hall meeting you will learn a lot about President Barack Obama’s proposed healthcare plan. This event will be held in the County Commissioner’s Meeting Room at the County Administration Building (Old Courthouse), beginning at 6:30 p.m. The physical address is 122 Young Street, Henderson, North Carolina.
The guest speaker will be Mr. Adam Searing, Project Director of N.C. Justice Center’s Health Access Coalition. Mr. Searing joined the Justice Center as Director of the North Carolina Health Access Coalition in 1997. The Health Access Coalition is North Carolina’s leading voice for progressive health care reforms that address the needs of the uninsured and underinsured. The project advocates both for more comprehensive and effective public health care programs and on behalf of average consumers in the private market. During his tenure, Searing has led the fight to defeat of a proposed conversion of Blue Cross/Blue Shield NC to a for-profit. He assisted with implementing expansions for the state Medicaid program, helped with the passage of the state’s Children’s Health Insurance Program (Health Choice), and fought for consumer rights for North Carolinians in HMOs. Mr. Searing has received awards and recognition for his work from the NC Public Health Association, the NC Primary Health Care Association, regional and state newspapers, and the honorary societies Delta Omega (public health) and Pi Sigma Alpha (political science).
House Representatives Lucy Allen, Jim Crawford, and Michael Wray are planning to attend the meeting. Please come out and share your concerns regarding President Obama’s Healthcare Plan. Your personal stories concerning the impact of the current healthcare system are welcome. I want to know your opinions on how we can effectively advocate for US Congress to expand healthcare coverage. This event is FREE and open to the public.
