The Vance County Board of Commissioners appointed its six members to the re-forming Vance County Economic Development Commission during its regular monthly meeting yesterday evening.
After County Manager Jerry Ayscue recounted the Henderson City Council’s appointments during its last regular meeting, he then told members that the Planning & Environmental Committee had recommended the appointment of Commissioner Terry Garrison as the elected member of the EDC.
Garrison was nominated and confirmed unanimously by the board.
Attention was then turned to the remaining five appointments. County Commission members were given ballots with the names of those seeking appointments on them. Each commissioner was instructed to vote for five of the individuals. The ballots were then given to County Clerk Kelly Grissom to tally.
Because the initial appointments are being made with staggered terms, the names of the five appointees were then drawn at random. The first name drawn received a three year term, the next two received two year terms, and the remaining members received one year terms each.
The names were drawn by County Attorney Justin Care.
Garrison was automatically given a three year term.
The appointments broke down as follows:
A motion to accept the above as members of the new EDC was approved unanimously.
