ACS to expand with help of Rural Center grant

County Manager Jerry Ayscue informed members of the Vance County Board of Commissioners on Monday evening that local firm Affiliated Computer Services (ACS) is looking to add 130-140 jobs at its current Vance County site.

He went on to tell members that the North Carolina Rural Center is to provide a $75,000 grant to assist with the expansion of its physical plant. He also stated that board authorization was required for ACS to obtain the grant.

Commissioner Deborah Brown asked what type of jobs would be added. Ayscue responded that the bulk of the jobs would be call center jobs, with some pharmacy technicians and perhaps supervisory jobs as well.

Brown requested a list of jobs at ACS. Ayscue said that he would try to obtain one.

Commission Chair Dan Brummitt told Brown that there is an element in the grant contract that requires ACS to follow through on the hirings, and noted that ACS would also be paying benefits for the positions.

The motion to approve the grant passed without opposition.
