The City Council of the City of Henderson finds and determines that blighted areas, as specifically defined in General Statutes 160-456, exist in the City of Henderson, and that the redevelopment of such areas is necessary in the interest of the public health, safety, morals, and/or welfare of the residents of the City of Henderson.
City land planning committee to meet Friday
The Henderson City Council’s Land Planning & Development Committee will meet on Friday, August 21, 2009 at 4:00 p.m. in the City Hall Conference Room at 134 Rose Avenue in Henderson, North Carolina. The item slated for discussion is the former Beacon Light apartment complex.
Golden LEAF meeting offers criticisms, strategy
The number of attendees at yesterday’s meeting of the Golden LEAF Initiative far exceeded the capacity of the small auditorium in Vance-Granville Community College’s Building 2.
HPD makes arrest for burglary
On August 8, 2009 at approximately 11:00 p.m. Henderson Police Department officers responded to a report of a breaking and entering and larceny which occurred at 160 S. Bullock Street.
Vance board of ed. committee meets Wednesday
The Vance County Board of Education’s Policy Committee will meet on Wednesday, August 19, 2009 at 12:30 p.m. at the Administrative Services Center at 1724 Graham Avenue in Henderson, North Carolina. No agenda for the meeting was provided. All meetings are held in the Superintendent’s Conference Room.
Police arrest suspect for B&E
On August 17, 2009 at approximately 11:15 a.m., members of the Henderson Police Department responded to 227 W. Belle Street in reference to a report of a breaking and entering in progress.

Vance tourism spending rises 1% for 2008
Gov. Bev Perdue announced on Wednesday that 62 of the state’s 100 counties saw increases in visitor spending in 2008, including 16 counties that had increases of more than 5 percent.

Purdue signs Racial Justice Act
On August 11, 2009, North Carolina Governor Bev Perdue signed Senate Bill 461, the North Carolina Racial Justice Act, which permits defendants and inmates to challenge death sentences by presenting statistical evidence of racial bias.

Search warrant at Owens Auto Repair nets two
Chief K.L. Sidwell reports that members of the Henderson Police Department’s Narcotics Unit conducted a search warrant at the business Owens Auto Repair located at 335 Hamilton Street in Henderson, North Carolina.
