The Vance County Board of Commissioners voted unanimously to seek a grant for a feasibility study of a proposed sewer line that would run between Henderson and Kittrell.
The sewer line was originally proposed by Economic Development Commission Chair Sam Watkins to serve the Kittrell Job Corps; however, the Job Corps site has proceeded with renovations of its existing sewage treatment facility. Since that proposal was made, the project has grown in scope considerably, and the county has begun the process of applying for Golden LEAF money to seed the project, the final cost of which is still a matter for speculation.
The grant would be sought from the North Carolina Rural Center. The $40,000 grant requires a local match of 4%, or $4,400.
Commission Chair Dan Brummitt said that interest in the sewer line has been expressed in the Bear Pond area, by businesses along the proposed route, and by residents in Kittrell.
Brummitt said that he thinks the project is “worthwhile”.
The motion to develop the application which was made by commission member Danny Wright and seconded by Terry Garrison was approved unanimously.
