
Shamon Champion, 23, arrested yesterday on a charge of first degree murder.
On October 21, 2009 members of the Henderson Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Division, Narcotics Unit, and Patrol Division apprehended Shamon Champion, a 23 year-old black male, after receiving a Crime Stoppers tip regarding his location at the Lincoln Height Apartments in Henderson.
Champion was wanted for first degree murder in the August 23, 2009 homicide of Robert Newsome at the intersection of Highland Ave and E. Rockspring Street in Henderson.
Champion has been charged with first degree murder and is being held without bond in the Vance County Jail awaiting a November 2, 2009 court hearing.
In addition to the murder charge, Champion is also an absconder from probation and parole. He was given a three-year suspended sentence for a 2008 conviction of felony breaking and entering and felony possession of stolen goods.
