HPD makes arrests for multiple burglaries


On November 10, 2009 around 1:29 a.m. officers with the Henderson Police Department responded to a burglary in progress at 924 Buckhorn Street, Henderson.

Upon arrival, the victim, a fifty-two year-old male, stated that two black males wearing masks entered his residence by breaking a glass window. The victim reported that he was asleep in his residence when he was awoken by the males demanding money. Victim stated that one male had a large knife, and the other male had a pipe. The victim then said that he told the suspects that he did not have any money, and this was when the suspect with the pipe hit him in his right side. The suspects then left the residence on foot. Officers arrived and saturated the area, attempting to locate the suspects. The victim did not seek medical treatment.

At 1:49 a.m., twenty minutes after the first burglary, officers received a call for service at 1606 Cypress Drive, Henderson in reference to an attempted breaking and entering. The victim at that location reported that two black males wearing dark clothing attempted to break the sliding glass door of the residence and ran away on foot. Officers set up a perimeter and located two black males running on foot across Oak Street towards Dabney Drive. Officers located the suspects behind the bread store on Dabney Drive near the Dabney Pit Stop at 555 Dabney Drive, Henderson.

Suspects were apprehended. One suspect was identified as a 15 year-old black male of Oxford Road, Henderson, and the other was identified as Jawara Hargrove, a 16 year-old black male of 1442 Perry Ave, Henderson.

Detectives with the Criminal Investigations Section were contacted and conducted further investigation. Upon further investigation, it was determined that the 16 year-old, Jawara Hargrove, was the suspect in the October 29, 2009 burglary that occurred on Oakdale Circle. During this burglary, a 91 year-old female was seriously assaulted and several items were taken from the residence.

The 15 year-old juvenile was charged with attempted robbery with a dangerous weapon, first degree burglary, and misdemeanor assault with a deadly weapon for the burglary at 924 Buckhorn Street. He was also charged with attempted first degree burglary for the attempted breaking and entering to 1606 Cypress Drive. A juvenile petition was issued and the juvenile was transported to a juvenile facility in Raleigh.

Hargrove was charged with attempted robbery with a dangerous weapon, first degree burglary, and misdemeanor assault with a deadly weapon for the burglary at 924 Buckhorn Street. He was charged with attempted first degree burglary for the attempted breaking and entering to 1606 Cypress Drive.

Jawara Hargrove was also charged with common law robbery, first degree burglary, and assault inflicting serious injury for the burglary at Oakdale Circle. He was given a $70,000 bond and was placed in the Vance County Jail pending a court date of November 16, 2009.
