Gordon Wilder, 59, was raised in Franklin County. He moved to Vance County over 35 years ago to begin his career with the Vance County School System as an Automotive Technology Instructor. A position he held for 21 years until being promoted to the Director of the Transportation Department for the school district. Wilder’s community volunteer service includes: member of New Sandy Creek Baptist Church; former member of the Vance County Fire Department, Vance County Rescue Squad, and the Epsom Volunteer Fire Department; President of the Aycock Elementary and the Henderson Middle Schools; President of the Southern Vance High School Athletic Booster Association; former member of the Vance County Emergency Planning Committee and former Chairman of the Vance County Transportation Advisory Committee.

Wilder is married to Pamela Moss Wilder and has two daughters.

Wilder’s agenda for running for county commissioner includes: serve as a catalyst to improve communication and cooperation between the local governing bodies (city and county governments and the board of education); to work on presenting a united front to our federal and state governmental agencies and representatives; and to assist in exploring creative ways to recruit and grow industry and business in the county.
