Vance Relay for Life kicks off Feb. 4

American Cancer Society’s Relay For Life of Vance County Invites the entire community to join them at their Annual Kick-Off Celebration!

Relay For Life of Vance County is starting a new year just like the rest of us.

Just like most of you, Vance Relay is making many New Year’s resolutions too. We are so excited about all of the opportunities that Vance Relay will bring this year that we want you to be a part of it!

Come join us at our annual Kick-off celebration on
February 4th, 2010, 6:00 p.m.
at Maria Parham Medical Center Auditorium
for a celebration like no other!

We will wrap-up last year’s Relay and then kick-off the new year with great entertainment, activities and enthusiastic speakers. You may be thinking, “Well, I’ve never participated in Relay, so I shouldn’t go”, or “I haven’t been involved in a while”, but neither is true. All are welcome and encouraged to come and join us to see just what the Vance Relay for Life is all about and what we have in store for 2010.

Ff your New Year’s resolution happens to be that you want to volunteer more, then the Vance County Relay needs you! Volunteers are needed to help lead, organize and participate in Vance Relay. Since its inaugural year in 1995, the Relay For Life of Vance County has raised over $3 million dollars. Key planning committee positions are vacant this year, and they need to be filled with passionate, dedicated volunteers who have an interest in defeating cancer.

In order for this event to continue its amazing success and meet our resolutions, we need more hands on deck. Volunteer opportunities vary from coordinating day-of-event volunteers to on-line data-entry, to helping recruit survivors to selling luminaries to assisting the planning committee in decision-making and strategy, as well as many more opportunities. The Planning Committee meets once a month for two hours: one hour to plan; one hour to educate the community and participants of event details.

“Relay For Life is an awareness-raiser about the progress against cancer, a way to unite the community with a common passion of defeating cancer as much as it is a fund raiser,” said Candice Walsh, Community Manager for the American Cancer Society. “Individuals who are willing to give their time and energy to this exciting event, as a volunteer or participant, have made a commitment to fight back against this disease and let the community know that we can beat cancer. They are giving more than just their time. They are saving lives. They are a part of the puzzle piece that is leading us to a cure!”

So, no matter what your commitment level and interests, we welcome you to come and learn more about the Vance County Relay For Life. Come join us on February 4 at our Kick-off Celebration to see just how Vance Relay is going to fight cancer this year! We can’t wait to see you there.
