Raleigh – Rep. Michael H. Wray is pleased to announce that Vance and Warren Counties will receive $3.2 million for a transportation project to aid in the state’s economic recovery.
The project is one of twelve in the state funded in this cycle by the federal American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, or ARRA. These federal stimulus projects have a total value of almost $46.9 million.
The money allotted for the project will pay for the milling, resurfacing and reconstructing the shoulders along one mile of U.S. 1, six miles of U.S. 1/158 Business, 2.6 miles of N.C. 39, seven miles of N.C. 903, 2.4 miles of N.C. 43 and five miles of a secondary road in Vance and Warren counties. A $3.2 million contract was awarded to S.T. Wooten Corp. of Wilson. Work can start as early as April 12, with final completion set for Oct. 15.
“We need safer roads and we need good jobs. This investment helps with both,” Rep. Wray said. “It will be money well-spent.”
According to the Federal Highway Administration, every $1 million spent on transportation creates 30 jobs, and according to the construction industry, every dollar invested in transportation generates $6 in economic impact.
