City ok’s $200k bid for land near Southerland Mill

The Henderson City Council approved a recommended starting price of $200,000 for property located across the street from Southerland Mill Pond.

According to City Attorney John Zollicoffer, the $200,000 is not a mandatory bid, but rather the council’s expression of what it would like to see.

The $200,000 figure follows a recommendation of the Land Planning Committee which met earlier on the matter.

Zollicoffer reminded the council that they can accept or reject any and all bids at any time.

The action was taken by the council this past Monday in response to an inquiry made by State Rep. Bill Faison, the purchaser of the Southerland Mill Pond property earlier this year.

Member Sara Coffey stated that the land has a lot of good timber on it and it can be re-cut. She called $200,000 “a very good starting bid”.
