Henderson city council finalizes 2011 budget

The Henderson City Council completed its budget discussions earlier this evening.

According to Home in Henderson special budget correspondent Lewis Edwards, the budget will be presented to the council during its first June meeting on Monday, June 14, 2010.

As it stands now, the fiscal 2011 budget does not include an ad valorum property tax increase or a water rate increase.

The original draft of the budget called for a four cent property tax increase as well as a water rte increase.

The finalized budget does, however, include a 2.1% increase in the sewage rate.

No adjustments were made in the solid waste fee, currently $25 per month, as the city continues negotiations with Waste Industries, Inc. regarding the privatization of that service.

Although a discussion of jointly funded projects with Vance County was anticipated, the subject was not discussed during the eighth and final council special budget meeting. The budget as it currently stands makes no alterations to payments called for by those contracts.
