Miracle Marathon part of Ind. Day celebration

by Gary Morgan, Executive Director
Gateway CDC

The Gateway Community Development Corporation and the Wal-Mart Distribution Center have joined forces to put an end to impoverished living conditions here in the city of Henderson.

To make this happen, the Wal-Mart Distribution Center has committed 20-30 volunteers each month for community revitalization with a primary focus on housing. A major partner in this effort is Rebuilding Hope, Inc. which has already helped dozens of families by repairing their homes.

To help bring awareness to the need and kick-off this initiative, Gateway and Wal-Mart DC is coordinating a July 3rd Independence Day Celebration — Miracle Marathon. The event will run from noon — 5:00 p.m. and highlight the following activities:

  • 5K Marathon – $20 entry fee
  • National Guard unit
  • Meet Your Heroes area where veterans from American campaigns can meet and greet you
  • Jericho Ride (motorcycles circling the city to defeat poverty)
  • Free Bouncing Fun House and slide for kids.
  • Book Bag Giveaway
  • Speakers
  • Hot Dogs, drinks, chips at 50 cents each
  • and lots more.

This is just one more step towards changing the outlook and success of our community. Please help by taking part.
