HPD recovers stolen laptop & makes firearm arrest


On June 3, 2010, officers of the Henderson Police Department’s Operations Division received a report of a larceny of a laptop computer from the Aycock Recreation Center at 307 Cary Chapel Road.

While on patrol, officers located a vehicle matching the description of the suspect vehicle in which Dante Montrell Champion of 683 Vance Street in Henderson, North Carolina left the Aycock Recreation Center. The vehicle was parked in the parking lot of Fiddlestix at 1421 East Andrews Avenue when located by officers.

Officers located a laptop computer on the floor of the vehicle which was identified as the laptop taken from the Aycock Recreation Center. Also seized was a Kassner .380 caliber handgun.

Champion was charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and misdemeanor larceny. He was given a $5,500 secured bond for the larceny charge and a $5,000 bond for the felony firearm possession charge.
