Vance County Board of Commissioners member Scott Hughes has been hospitalized with a broken back.
Although some reports indicate that Hughes was injured on Saturday, his Facebook page indicated that injury happened between June 29, 2010 at 10:38 p.m. and June 30, 2010.
The Daily Dispatch reported that Hughes fell off of a roof in downtown Henderson. He was transported to the Maria Parham Medical center and subsequently flown by aeroambulance to the Wake Med.
The fall crushed Hughes’ T12 vertebrae and has paralyzed him from the waist down. He expressed on his Facebook page that he hopes to make a full recovery.
So far, Hughes has made no comment on whether or not the accident will affect his bid for re-election to his Board of Commissioners seat.
