On July 7, 2010, officers with the Henderson Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Division along with the Narcotics Unit arrested Abdil Nasser Almuwallad, 21 at AA Foodmart, 200 W. Andrews Avenue in Henderson, North Caroline for possession with the intent to manufacture, sell, and deliver a Schedule I controlled substance.
Almuwallad was in possession of 30 pounds of khat.
Khat is a plant native to tropical east Africa and the Arabian Peninsula that contains a amphetamine-like stimulant. The relevant chemical, Cathinone, is a Schedule I controlled substance under the Controlled Substance Act.
Almuwallad received a $20,000 secured bond and was released after posting bond. He has a court hearing pending on July 19, 2010 in Vance County.
