Special county commission meeting called Monday


The Vance County Board of Commissioners will hold a special called meeting on Monday, August 23, 2010 at 4:00 p.m. in the Commissioner’s Conference Room located in the County Administration building, 122 Young Street in Henderson, North Carolina.

The purpose of the meeting is to:

  • Approve a funding plan for school projects;
  • Discuss an economic development project in closed session;
  • Discuss a personnel matter in closed session;
  • and to discuss other items as needed.
  • The funding strategy for the school projects involves over $6 million for four multi-purpose rooms, mechanical/HVAC upgrades to Northern Vance High School, various repair projects at multiple schools, and the replacing of the roof, HVAC at the Administrative Services Center along with curbing and gutters.

    The projects involve the use of Qualified School Construction Bonds I & II (QSCB) and Qualified Zone Academy Bonds IV (QZAB). The QSCB I & II bonds must be sold by December 31, 2010, while the QZAB IV bonds must be sold by December 31, 2011.

    The project at the Administrative Services Center will be funded through the use of reserve funds at an approximate cost of $400,000.
