The Henderson City Council approved a flurry of resolutions for contracts and grants for various Henderson projects, including:
A $14,000 contract with Progress Energy to temporarily move power pylons for the Beckford Drive widening project;
A $299,004 Main Street Solutions Grant that will be used to help develop the REEF Project. The grant requires no local match and will be paired with another grant;
A contract with O’Brien & Gere for construction management and resident inspection services for the installation of the new ultraviolet disinfection system at the Water Treatment Facility. The contract is worth a maximum of $99,360, all of which will be reimbursed to the city by the North Carolina Rural Center and the North Carolina Clean Water Management Trust Fund. The UV system is expected to be on-line by May of 2011;
A State Energy Grant for the city’s Operations Center. This American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (stimulus package) grant will be used primarily to install fluorescent lights at the facility which should result in lower utility bills;
A contract with John Hamme, PE and Soil Horizons, Inc. for the removal of the Newton Dairy Road Pump Station for both water and sewer. According to City Engineer Peter Sokalski, the station will be replaced with a gravity forced main from the west side of US1 to the eastern side where it will be connected with the existing sewer system. Those contracts are worth $480,000 and will come out of the water capital reserve fund.
