To the editor: City contribution to joint funding

I am posting this information for those that are concerned with the amount that the city taxpayer is donating to joint funding that is over and above the amount that the taxpayers of the county are donating.

Please bear in mind that as a city taxpayer you are also contributing to the county’s donation in addition to the city’s donation.

In most cases the donation from the city is:

Aycock Recreation
84 % of the total city/county contribution.

Aycock Aquatics
82 % of the total city/county contribution.

911———-
79 % of the total city/county contribution.

Airport
66 % of the total city/county contribution.

Library
When the city/county give an equal amount the result is that the city taxpayers are supplying 66 % of the total contribution.

The current year funding by the city is:

  • 911 – $501,821
  • Library – $262,230
  • Airport – $26,022
  • Recreation – $829,280
  • Recreation (Aquatics) – $661,750
  • Total – $2,281,103

Just the above 5 items would account for 27 cents on city taxes.

I believe that 1 cent on the tax rate brings in $83,850 in tax revenue.
