School board calls emergency meeting for tomorrow

The Vance County Board of Education has called an emergency meeting for Wednesday, February 16, 2011 at 5:30 p.m.

The meeting will be about multipurpose rooms.

The original multipurpose room project’s objective was to build the facilities at four county elementary schools that currently lack them: E.M. Rollins Elementary School, Carver Elementary School, L.B. Yancey Elementary School, and New Hope Elementary School.

Carver Elementary School’s proposed multipurpose room was cut from the project after the first round of bids was received. An appeal to the Vance County Board of Commissioners to increase the amount of debt for the project was rejected.

During Monday’s regular meeting of the board, the board declined to accept a bid from contractor H.G. Reynolds to build three of the four multipurpose rooms originally planned in favor of a discussion of the project with another contractor, Hite Associates. It is not known if that discussion took place.

The emergency meeting will be held at the Administrative Services Center, 1724 Graham Avenue in Henderson, North Carolina.
