Dr. Norman Shearin, superintendent of Vance County Schools, announced at the Vance County Board of Education meeting last night that he is retiring.
Shearin told board members that he will continue his work as the superintendent of schools as long as the board needs him to do so until a replacement is found.
Shearin has been the superintendent of Vance County Schools since January of 2003. He has worked in education for over 47 years, including 30 years as a high school teacher and principal in Florida and then as a high school principal and assistant superintendent in New Hanover County for nine years.
