If anyone’s curious as to what happened, or what didn’t happen, last Saturday May 21, there was according to Mr. Harold Camping a judgement indeed, and those determined worthy have been decided.
“Through chatting with a friend over what he acknowledged was a very difficult weekend, it dawned on him that instead of the biblical Rapture in which the faithful would be swept up to the heavens, May 21 had instead been a “spiritual” Judgment Day, which places the entire world under Christ’s judgment, he said.
The globe will be completely destroyed in five months, he said, when the apocalypse comes. But because God’s judgment and salvation were completed on Saturday, there’s no point in continuing to warn people about it, so his network will now just play Christian music and programs until the final end on Oct. 21.”

Our best wishes to those in the path of the recent tornadoes this week, and more seem to be on the way. Currently over 1,500 are reported missing in Missouri from them.

QUESTION: How much does it cost to process a debit or credit card payment. If it is done electronically how long does it take. I am asking because Progress energy has now started to charge their customers $4.95 to pay with a card. They do not have a direct office in Vance County. If you pay at one of the pay stations they charge $1.25. They have a free no charge station in Norlina, but not in Vance County. Also why does the Tax office not take Credit or debt card payments. Am I wrong in thinking that if people sent in checks that it would be more expensive to process payments then using a debit or credit card. Why should you have to pay to pay a bill?
There is no set fee, it varies by bank, and cc processor. There is normally a set transaction fee, maybe 25 cents, then in addition to that a percentage of the actual bill. It varies between 1 to 3% of the total bill. So on a $100 payment, only $97 may go to the business. The rest goes to the credit card processing company. If the cc processor is with the business bank likely the item would be deposited that evening. However, if it is a 3rd party it may take 2 or 3 days.
Progress Energy has been charging the $4.95 to pay with a card for a while now. It’s worth it to me to pay the $4.95 and pay it online or by phone than to drive somewhere out of the way and wait in line for 30 minutes to pay the bill.
I’m not sure if the tax office takes cards or not.
Yes, checks are actually much cheaper to process than credit cards as there is usually no fee for a check. Personally I prefer a check in my business than a credit card for this reason.
Well now, the word is that John Edwards will be indicted by the Federal Government–something about election money irregularities–in my opinion it couldn’t happen to a more deserving public servant.
