This weeks version of the new North Carolina voting laws include changes to the identification section of the bill yet again. Earlier, it was allowed to bring not only a photo ID, but you could instead bring in a copy of a utility bill that included your name and address. Now that provision is gone, and a photo ID is the only acceptable form in the latest version. Also in talks is the possibility to reduce the number of petitioners required on a new political party from 85,000 down to 10,000.
Welcome to the Wednesday Open Line!
This is “open” line so I wish to throw in another subject. Following is part of a letter I recieved from a very distraught friend:
on Monday Gail at VC Animal Control put a note on Gray Baby’s cage that I would take her. she was healthy on Saturday.
I had carried her around Saturday afternoon; we had interacted with Alex. Alex knew.
Bill, was an adult male that noone would want. He was healthy too.
I met them both on Saturday at the pound’s Adoptathon.
Word came Monday night that the cat room was full and that animals would likely be gassed unless rescuers came forward. I knew Bill would have no chance. I had made up my mind last night that I would rescue him. Alex was too busy to come to the phone when I called before 5:00 p.m. My message was that I would call in the morning.
Bill and Gray Baby were both killed early this morning before the public could gain access by door. phones were not answered nor was the answering machine on. Gail was told they were “sick” .
This is how things are done at the Vance County Animal Shelter. I know there is nothing that is going to completely solve the problem of over population of animals in Vance County, but it seems that our county commissioners and city council could come up with some way of helping. I know that many attempts have been made by advocates to get them involved in trying to come up with a solution, but it seems that everyone keeps passing the “buck” to someone else and nothing is getting done.. This is a very large problem in our county and I feel it should be considered as important and some solution offered instead of being swept under the table.
