In consideration for Governor Perdue is a new bill that will add a tax to prepaid wireless service. The revenue from the tax will go towards the 911 fund to support 911 service in the state. It seems governments are trying to add taxes here and there to make up for shortfalls in revenue. Businesses are doing it too, my bank previously offered free checking for personal and business however that has been eliminated the last couple of months.
Also on the governors desk is a bill that would request a blood sample to be taken from you by an officer if you are driving under the influence. “If a person willfully refuses to provide a blood sample under this law, and the person is charged with driving under the influence, then a law enforcement officer with probable cause to believe that the offense involved impaired driving or was an alcohol related offense, shall seek a warrant to obtain a blood sample. The failure to obtain a blood sample pursuant to this subsection shall not be grounds for the dismissal of a charge and is not an appealable issue.” The text of this bill is here.
This weekend on Saturday Vance County Animal Shelter will host an adoption event from 9am to 1pm at the Tractor Supply store on Dabney Drive.
Stay cool, have a great weekend, and welcome to its open line!
Does anyone know anything about this:
2 Henderson men shot in incident at convenience store
I saw the headline on the papers FB page but can’t find out anything else about it…
Both boys were charged and back on the street before the ink was dry. I’m sure they will get another chance thi weekend to finish the job.
What is going on at the Hospital?
I don’t know,………What is going on at the hospital?
Does anyone know what is going on at hospital? Why not call David Ruggles at MPMC
It is sad how Henderson crime is…does the court system not understand that they don’t fear anyone or anything! There are very few crimes in h’town that you can’t walk away from…makes me sick to even think about it! Yes you CAN get arrested….Even if it’s a simple break n entering issue…the cops wont even take prints cause there isn’t the work force to handle that! Really! Wow! Just not right! Try raising kids in this city n tell them that they can’t do this or that cause the law WILL get them…they know better so that’s a few more that just don’t care! What can we do as people? How can we stand up against this injustice? How can we MAKE the courts “make them pay” for their crimes? Any ideas all so knowing people of h-town?
Anonymous2, nothing is going to change until people care more about victims than criminals, and that isn’t the case right now. This is a problem created by the liberals and is going to continue until we decide that it has to stop. Until the crime actually touches everyone, and not mostly only certain areas, probably nothing will be done.
More about last Monday’s Commissioner’s meeting for our collective thinking
The meeting opened with Chairman Wright asking if anyone was present to speak about the county’s budget. I had not read the whole budget. Have any of you? There is no electronic copy of the budget and the whole thing in a large D-ring binder. I have some thoughts for saving or eliminating certain expenses, yet I was unprepared to speak to the budget.
Why do we need to spend nearly $100,000 a year for an economic development director? The county’s main business Section 8 housing has grown without that expense. By the way Commissioner Hester was giddy when Mr. Asycue informed everyone that someone’s background is being checked before making the offer to fill that unneeded director’s position.
Why does the county need its own data center in a 100 year old wooden building when the county school’s data center has available space? There is the savings of a few thousand dollars consolidating those two data centers into one.
One final thought from Monday’s Commissioners meeting.
If we must rearrange the county’s voting districts what if we eliminate the districts all together electing all commissioners at large? There is no State rule that prohibits that choice.
I like those ideas, Mr. Bobbitt
