How is your quality of live in Vance County? Wednesday, organization ThriveNC boasted of a testimonial video from John Ratliff, president and COO of Quintiles, who points out how from universities to the arts to sports, the quality of life in North Carolina is great.
How do you feel Vance Countie’s ‘quality of live’ compares with the rest of North Carolina?
Discuss and more on the Thursday Open Line!
To be honest about it I think Vance County is the ‘armpit’ of North Carolina and I don’t see that fact changing in my lifetime. Our local government leaders certainly don’t have a clue on how to make
things better. I’m to the point if I could get fair market value for my house I would sell it and move somewhere else, I think this is true for a lot of other residents also.
I absolutely agree with Dazed and Confused. Wake up ‘leaders’ of Vance County: you are losing your taxpayers and will have nothing left but those on the dole. You better do something other than build Section 8 and businesses that cater to Section 8.
Also, the judges need to do something other than ‘catch and release.’ What a joke of a County.
Unqualified people running the county that does exactly what a handful of people tell them to do, not what’s best for the county.
The only reason I stay in Vance County is Kerr Lake.. I am afraid for my wife to go to Wallmart by herself even in the day time.
Crime and drug central of NC
Our quality of life in Henderson is seen in the many areas where we excel. Teenage pregnancy rate, STD rates, high school dropout rates, level of illiteracy, leadership in Section 8 and government funded housing are all examples of the measure of our quality of life. Another is the exodus of our best and brightest; they flee the county upon completion of their primary education and only to return to visit family on holidays.
Our leaders should be proud Out in Left Field! (NOT!)
Betterworld, our leaders of government, church, and most of all the county club set must be proud of our county’s quality of life. Why else would we excel year after year at what other’s consider failure.
It is so weird how the people from this town are so full of hate for where they live and the other people that live here. It is STRANGE! I have never lived where people had NO pride for their community. Maybe it is something in the water.
Dagny you are right about no pride , the road sides look like landfillls with trash, yards look like landfills or junk yards with cars, grafite all over the buildings, houses not kept up falling down. you said it no pride.
I do feel there is hope for Henderson sometime during the next 50 years or so. As prosperity moves north up US1 maybe some wealthy developers will buy up all this Henderson blight and rebuild Henderson as a suburb of Raleigh. Access to Kerr Lake would be a huge drawing card, only time will tell.
It’s all very sad. Vance County has a lot of potential. Seems like those who run the place just have no vision or imagination of what it could be. They are stuck in neutral.
and the citizens seem to have lost hope.
A while back, (way back) people posted ideas for how to make things better and more interesting on main street, and Henderson/Vance in general.
IMO, this feeling of hopelessness isn’t just in Henderson, but across the country.
