The Tax-Aide Program is the nation’s largest volunteer-run FREE tax assistance and preparation service for low- and moderate- income taxpayers, with special attention to those aged 60 and older. Last year, throughout the United States, over 2.5 million taxpayers were assisted by more than 35,000 Tax-Aide Volunteers. In order continue this excellent community service in Henderson at the Vance County Senior Center, additional local Tax-Aide Volunteers are needed!
If you’re good with numbers and enjoy helping people, your skills are needed during the coming tax season to provide free personal income tax assistance to elderly and low-income individuals. Local volunteers attend daytime training sessions, taught by IRS-trained instructors, to learn to prepare and e-file both federal and state tax returns. Volunteers are certified after passing an open-book proficiency test. They are also asked to work at least one four-hour daytime weekly session during tax season from February 1 to April 16, 2012.
Tax-Aide volunteers are people who like to help others. They are also motivated to learn the tax system and apply their knowledge and tax skills to assist other people. The program stresses FREE tax assistance for low-to-moderate-income individuals in our area, with a special emphasis on the elderly.
An organizational meeting will be held in early October for new volunteers. For more information, please contact the Vance County Senior Center at (252) 430-0257.
