Ok, if you’re in a rock, you may not know about it, but let’s recap for everyone else too. Tonight holds a possible final decision in whether Vance County gets county wide zoning. And it’s not just that yes we will or no we won’t and we’ll decide details later. The details are already laid out in a 102 page ordinance, maps are already drawn, zoning areas are already set, and what someone can and can not do in their zone is already determined. Tonight likely holds a vote by the commissioners to enact or not this zoning measure, and if passed it will take affect.
Some people like this idea, some people don’t. Some don’t want zoning, some do, some don’t want the commissioners deciding about it, some do. The past few days have drawn some passionate comments both ways. We have received editorials from two readers, one from Michael Bobbitt, who also wrote about zoning in a previous editorial here, and one from Rusty McMahon with a Part 2 here. If you’d like to submit your own editorial please send it to submit@homeinhenderson.com. However, you may want to just post it in the comments section of this open line or one of the other appropriate threads as I may not have time to publish editorials submitted on Monday up in a decent time frame.
We have provided the full meeting agenda for tonight, and also the full ordinance code and maps as well here.
Whatever stance you have regarding zoning, if you live in Vance County we urge you to come to tonights meeting and support your side. You must come early and register your name by 5:45pm in order to be allowed to speak during the public comments section.
I’d like the focus to be on the above, but I need to also tell you about this weeks presidential weekly address. President Obama discusses the letters he receives every day asking for action on jobs and calls on Congress to pass the American Jobs Act right away to cut taxes, create jobs and provide a win for the American people.
