The first Vance County Animal Awareness day was celebrated by a small but passionate group of concerned citizens whose goal is to help the animals and community here in Vance.
Attending were Maw and, Paw’s Ark, the Vance County 4-H and the fledgling Vance County SPCA.. Several cats were looking hopefully for new homes, and Cody and Peggy Satterwhite, a local certified pet therapy team were present. National Feral Cat Day was celebrated, and the hard-working volunteers from Ruin Creek Animal Protection Society took a short break from their ongoing shelter rescue program to come by. Several people stopped to contribute pet food to the new Pet Food and Supply Drive, which will continue as organizing takes place.
The Blessing of the Animals was indeed a blessing to all present..Doris Hedgpeth spoke compassionately about Green followed God’s love for all of His Creation, as did Edith Green…Ms. Green closed with a beautiful, uplifting song that blessed all, “How Great is our God”.
A few other lessons were learned, such as not to hold the next event at the same time the NC State Fair is held, along with the popular Car Show that drew such a crowd downtown.
I want to thank the media and local businesses for participating in this new endeavor…we didn’t get much information out early, but did the best we could.
Perhaps none too well.
While the Vance County SPCA will continue to experience birth pains, we will certainly become more vocal; as politically unpopular as it is to say this, we believe God has a mission for us here to help animals and people alike, actively educating and participating where and whenever we can. Meanwhile we can be found on Facebook while we work to establish a web site, phone number and draw members. And we enthusiastically refer people to other groups in the area that car and can be found on facebook such as Ruin Creek Animal Protection Society, Maw and Paws Ark, Hedgepeth Foster dogs and of course Vance County Animal Shelter. There’s a lot to be done here, let’s roll up our sleeves and get at it!
And for those out there that have tried and given up, hey, David did take down Goliath…and someday I’ll tell you all why I was determined never to get involved again, but here I am! I’m betting my story will beat out yours!
Sincerely,
Peggy Satterwhite
