Chairman Eddie L. Wright has called a special meeting for Monday, October 24, 2011 at 6:00 p.m. in the Commissioners’ Conference Room, Vance County Administration Building, 122 Young Street, Henderson, NC. The purpose of the special meeting is to:
- Hold a joint public hearing with the Board of Education at 6:00 p.m. to receive citizen input on the proposed new district boundaries for the County Commissioner Districts and Board of Education Districts.
- Hold a public hearing at 6:15 p.m. to gain citizen input on repealing Vance County Ordinance #9 entitled “Zoning Ordinance” (1977); Ordinance #11 entitled “Swimming Pools”; Ordinance #37 entitled “Junkyard”; and Ordinance #38 entitled “Outdoor Shooting Range”.
- Brownfields Grant
- Economic Development Grant Matters
- Closed Session – Property Matter
- Other items as needed
Wow, Three days notice–and busy session–some closed–property thing –. “Other items” as needed–. In my opinion this will not bode well for us.
Anyone else have an opinion?
The Dispatch reported several weeks ago that the public hearing on zoning was a mere formality, that the commissioners had already made up their minds. The Dispatch was right.
And now the commissioners have called a public hearing to hear and take into account what we have to say about repealing the old zoning ordinance, which they and their predecessors failed to enforce since 1977. (Talk about malfeasance, negligence, and dereliction of duty!) Given the fact that the commissioners ignored public opinion and voted to enact the new zoning ordinance before asking us if we wanted the old ordinance repealed, we can now be 100% certain that our leaders do not care one iota about anything we think or believe.
Since it is highly unlikely that six people can be so ignorant, uncaring, and destructive, they must simply be following orders. I wonder what the payoff for betraying thousands of citizens is these days?
Citizens enmasse at the courthouse before the meeting???
I thought there was a 10 day notice requirement for “special” meetings. Nothing presented seems to indicate this is an “emergency” meeting .
