The play was written around 442 BC by the ancient playwright Sophocles. The title character is a young woman who defies her uncle, the king, for the sake of her dead brother and what she believes to be right. In this version, translated into accessible, contemporary English, the setting is changed from the ancient kingdom of Thebes to the modern Middle East. The cast includes VGCC students Christina (CJ) Pearce of Henderson as Antigone; Cody Trivette of Oxford as the heroine’s uncle, King Creon; Helen Claiborne of Oxford as Antigone’s sister, Ismene; Nick Henderson of Oxford as Antigone’s fiance, Haemon; Jennie Robinson of Henderson as Eurydice, Creon’s wife; Kristy Hope of Henderson as the Nurse; Skott Daeke of Henderson as the Page; Jessica Edwards of Henderson as the Messenger; Grey Winn of Youngsville, Jerome Bulluck of Henderson and Brett Bowling of Creedmoor as the Guards; and Joy Chalmers of Oxford, Cameron Kester of Bullock and Tia Ragland of Henderson as the Chorus.

Vance County will hold a Board of Commissioners meeting on Monday evening. We’ll post details about that when we get them.
Welcome to the open lines!
Here’s a question to which I need an answer. Was reading the Dispatch headline story re: the Vance fugitive caught in Tenn. Despite the revoked license, residency questions, prior intoxicated driving charges, driving left of center, having an open container of alcohol and altering his vehicle title ( busy guy!), Vance Magistrate Blah Blah allowed Flores-Campos to walk away the night of the fatal DWI accident after posting the $455 cash bond.
To what standard are magistrates held, and what is the process to rectify a situation such as this? It would seem to me that the magistrate is the first line of defense in keeping dangerous people off the streets, and it would appear from the Dispatch story that there was plenty reason not to release this guy. Just asking.
Mingo is right on. The first line of defense is the Magistrate. It would seem to me that common sense would not have allowed that type of bail. Shape up Vance County. The lives you save could be yours or a loved one!
So, my question is, how does a magistrate get his/her job? Appointed/hired, apply for position? They are responsible for their actions to someone, esp. the public. Who questions, has authority/responsibility for their decisions?
Anyone?
Interesting link to Virginia reforms re: magistrates

Seems to me the magistrate lucked in by making it easy for this illegal to leave the area. Should we support the man locally, in jail or on the streets??
It’s all just a revolving door around here.
You know, it does a body good to see the gas stations around Sheetz struggling to keep there gas prices in line with Sheetz and to see Sheetz lot full and the others full of cars that couldn’t get into Sheetz.
Thanks you Sheetz for giving us in Henderson a choice.
Yes, Sheetz in Youngsville on Sunday, $3.26/gal, in Henderson, Sunday, $3.15 per/gal.
