Warren County Memorial Library to Present Southern Cooking, High and Low


The Warren County Memorial Library and the North Carolina Humanities Council present “Southern Cooking, High and Low: A Short History of the Cuisine of the South” at 3 p.m. on Sunday, January 22, 2012 in the community room at Warren County Memorial Library. The program, presented by “Road Scholar” John J. Beck, will explore the past and present history of Southern food traditions, including how the culinary traditions of various cultures have blended to create what is now considered native Southern cuisine.    

John J. Beck is currently Visiting Assistant Professor of History at Elon University. He was Dean of Arts and Sciences at Vance-Granville Community College in Henderson from 1987-2007. He has also been an adjunct Professor of History at NC Wesleyan College, and Instructor of History and Political Science at James Sprunt Community College, as well as an author and lecturer.

The event is free and the public is invited to attend. This project is made possible by a grant from the North Carolina Humanities Council, a statewide nonprofit and affiliate of the National Endowment for the Humanities.
