Beginning next week, Vance County Schools will make available its new Parent Assistant Module (PAM) online system to parents.
Parent Assistant is a web-based application that allows parents to view their child’s educational information online using the Internet. Parents can use the system to view their child’s grades, attendance, assignments, demographic information and emergency data. Parents who live with the child will be able to request online changes to student demographic and emergency data.
Vance County Schools have already had parents at all grade levels to supply the necessary information on their child and children who attend local public schools. The information has been loaded into the PAM system, so that it can be available for parent viewing at the beginning of the second semester, which begins on Monday, January 23.
The school system is creating a link on the Vance County Schools’ website homepage (www.vcs.k12.nc.us) for the Parent Assistant login for parents, as well as a Parent Assistant information page with a detailed user guide and a four-minute video on how to use the PAM system. All parents will receive information from their child’s school about the PAM system. They will be asked to come to the school to pick up their user accounts information which will include a User ID and Password. Parents also will be given a one-page “Parent Assistant Quick Start” document when they come to the school to receive their information.
With the PAM system, teachers are required to enter all graded student assignments by 5 p.m. each Tuesday, so that the information will be available for parent viewing.
The Parent Assistant information will be available to parents through home computers, laptops and even smartphones. If a parent does not have access to a home computer, each school will designate at least one computer in a central location in the school (such as the media center) for parents to use to access PAM.
Vance County Schools is joining other public school systems across the state in making the Parent Assistant Module available for parent use. The system is being coordinated through the N.C. Department of Public Instruction and is designed as another option for parents to stay informed of their child’s educational progress and to have access to other important educational information.
