Great job HPD and thank you to HiH for sharing this with us. When people steal from retailers the law abiding customers end up paying for it in the end.
While HPD is posting the shoplifters–let’s ask for DUI, etc. photos. It’s all law breaking but in different fields. In my opinion–let’s be fair and publicize all alleged law breakers.
I agree with prudence put the DUI pictures on here also. The embarassment might make people think before getting behind the wheel while drinking.
What a bunch of losers! Great job HPD!
I think it would be nice to find out what happens to these people once they appear in court. Thenmaybe we could understand why we keep seeing them time and time again.
They like to pick up stuff that belong to so good the judge should let them pickup the paper and ttrash beside the roads. Put a stated number of pounds they have to pick up each week or go to jail.

Alot of the items these people try to steal make me laugh. Instead of stealing fishing lures – Dig some worms, Hair grease – Lard, Batteries – freeze the ones you have, Body Spray – lets start with a shower, Dog food – don’t have a dog. Its really just sad
I think it is completely ridiculous that the Henderson Police Department thought they were doing our town a public service, simply because they were putting up information in regards to citizens committing larceny. As someone above said, what about all of the people driving under the influence, or driving while impaired? Who even knows what “impaired” is defined as now-a-days, considering the fact that it could range from Prescription drugs to Acid. How about people committing assault and battery? I would be a lot more concerned over that then someone stealing actual batteries. No pun intended.
Furthermore, how is this a public service when majority of other towns inform the public of this information already? For example, Greenville. The minute someone is arrested (for anything) they put up the mug shots and information online. If you are going to embarrass one person, why not embarrass the rest? In a world of “rights,” how is that just in any way?
I agree!! Why not post pictures of the ‘higher-ups’ in Henderson that catch charges. A perfect example that I’m thinking of is the Ruggles man who is supposedly an executive at Maria Parham Medical Center and whose high priced car was left wrecked/abandoned after a night of alledgedly drinking & driving! Why else would he leave the scene? Why doesn’t the HPD plaster his mugshot instead of what appears to be a bunch of drug abusing criminals? Certainly they aren’t stealing to put food into their kids mouths! Do you think they are stealing to feed their families or to support their habits?
Go HPD! I appreciate being able to sneer at criminals. If they added the DUIs, that would be icing on the cake. I think Society needs to send a message that criminals are losers and that we absolutely need to ostracize them until they decide to contribute to Society instead of victimizing us. It is time for this.
So here’s a quick poll to the HiH bloggers: Which would you rather be made aware of….druggies who are stealing anything from shampoo & conditioner or people who are caught and charged with DUI’s? I will start by making the 1st vote and my vote goes to the people who are arrested/charged with DUI!! To my family they pose the greater risk than the druggie who decides he/she wants to run up into Food Lion and steal some steaks!!! Do you understand my point? By the way, whatever happened to the Ruggles case and whatever happened to the ex-commissioner scott hughes who was charged with possession of a controlled substance(HEROIN)? Wonder if the good ole’ boy network of lawyers was able to do jack a favor and plead that down to a lesser charge?
My vote is that we are made aware of all the people arrested. Not just druggies, shoplifters and dui’s. I have officially requested that to the HPD and suggested ways to better inform us and the other media on incidents a few months ago. They have not done much of what I asked, but they do at least send this report out. They did reach out to us to ask what they could do better in their media relations. I made several suggestions that would help me achieve the reporting that I’d like to achieve, but it may take time to implement, or perhaps they are not interested. I post everything I receive from them, as above some of the names don’t have pictures, because we were not given pictures of them.
Ruggles I am not sure what happened regarding that, Hughes I think the heroin charge was continued to a later date. To be really useful, we also need a way to follow up on cases in the court system. Without someone from the media having to sit in court all day. And also without having someone from our staff go to the HPD and ask to see the incidents every day. Even though it’s right down the street from the HiH office, I can’t commit to going every day to take the reports. It takes about 30 minutes every day to go and get copies of all the reports then more time to analyze and type up them all. If we had a larger budget we could do more things here like that, or if anyone would like to volunteer to be our HPD report getter I can help you. Would love the same info from the Sherrif’s office, but they have not been nearly as cooperative as the HPD has to us.
Chief Sidwell at a community watch meeting we attended pointed out that many times, these people are “professional shoplifters”. They actually take orders from people and then go to shoplift these items, food, etc. for other people. We are glad to see these names and faces. Some of them are neighbors and the like and we must always know where to be watchful.
