On the list of those who have been awarded the nation’s highest honor is Milton Olive III, a slightly built young man from the South Side of Chicago. Pfc Olive was a member of the 503rd Infantry Regiment fighting in Vietnam, as he and four fellow soldiers were pursuing the enemy through the jungle, a grenade suddenly landed in their midst. Olive saved the lives of his fellow soldiers by throwing himself on top of the grenade, his body absorbing its full blast. He was posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor for this extraordinary heroism by President Johnson. There are 7.5 million veterans of the Vietnam War, and 2.4 million African-American military veterans in the U.S.
Welcome to the Weekend Open Lines!
Dispatch article about paint reclamation deal stalled after $100,000. spent–great going City Council–you’ve been duped again. It’ll be a long time before we see that grant money returned.
Told you so!
My bad–looks like the county was duped also.
Will current city council member Mike Inscoe have to give back his $11,000 that he was paid as a consultant or whatever you want to call him? It sickens me for people to be in public office for no other reason than for personal gain and/or ‘pet projects’!!!! You should be ashamed Mr. Inscoe and hiding company names, etc. in your daughter’s names still doesn’t pass the smell test!!! I used to think you were a man of high moral values but the FACTS don’t lie….but people do!!! The ‘pet projects’ that I speak of where your daughter’s names are used are the HOPE ‘projects’ that involve apartments being built over some of the downtown businesses. How much $$$ have you pocketed from that ‘pet project’! Where are the honest, law abiding citizens who truly want to help Henderson and Vance County and not in it for personal or family gain? Are there truly none left? It certainly appears that way!!!! SHAME ON YOU ALL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The honest law abiding citizens who have gone to the Council and commissioners meetings in the past have been shut down mighty quickly if they were opposed to what was already cut and dried.
In my opinion those elected to serve their fellow citizens don’t care, snicker at what they have been doing to our area for generations as they line their pockets. They have no shame.
People have been questioning that paint deal from the very beginning on this site — that many aspects just didn’t look on the straight and narrow.
That is so true–at that time there were questions about the company’s past dealings–but so many
must have thought they were smarter and we wouldn’t have problems. Where have we heard THAT before?
So now the city and county get their money back. What’s the problem? Call your next case!
You guys would be the first to blame the city and county for letting a small business get away if they hadn’t tried.
