Duke may have pulled out a win at the buzzer last night, but it seems UNC-Chapel Hill has a solid grip on number one—for best college value, that is. In January, the Tarheel school was named by Kiplinger’s Personal Finance magazine as the number one top value for public universities. This month, The Princeton Review arrived at the same conclusion, naming UNC-Chapel Hill the number one best value for public colleges. The rankings were based on institutional data and student opinion surveys, taking into consideration factors such as cost, financial aid and student loan burdens for undergraduate academics.
And while UNC-Chapel Hill rivals Duke on the court, the two universities coordinate efforts to strategically problem-solve universal issues. Currently, joint efforts include research and development in energy, food sustainability, global relations, neurology and technology. A recent article in MedCity News summarized the collaborative work between the North Carolina institutions.
The partnership has resulted in the Energy Frontier Research Center, the Duke-UNC Brain Imaging and Analysis Center and the Renaissance Computing Institute as well as an impressive list of projects and consortia. During the game, the rivalry between the teams is palpable. But off the court, UNC-Chapel Hill and Duke are amazing allies, which makes everyone a winner.
