I’d like to thank everyone for entering our weekend contest, as you can see it brought out lots of commenters, lots of viewers to our site. I just wish I didn’t have to bribe you all to comment so much! Our purpose is to give the area a discussion place for topics that affect us all. Although we don’t have official reporters, we have the community, and you can see that when everyone participates, there’s plenty of news and discussion to be had.
Please carry on, and don’t wait for the next contest to participate.

Are Vance County Schools open today, on a two hour delay, or no one is sober enough to make a decision?
There is no school in Vance County regardless of the snow, correct? Isn’t today President’s Day?
on the school’s website, it listsd today as a snow day, so I assume that means school was out today anyway and today would have been used as a snow day.
Phil, I also checked the school’s website. There is no clear explanation from the school administration on the meaning of the snow day. Was the school administration lucky guessing or are they using some advanced farmer almanac? The reason for the posting was simply to point out a lack of communication from the school administration regarding schools being open or closed or delayed.
Was having dinner with family last night when 4 or five cell phones all went off at the same time. Was a ro-bo call advising a 2 hour delay in (Granville) school openings today. Teenager shouting whooo! Parents groaning.
A ‘snow’ day is an extra day they add into the calendar so that if any school days are missed prior to that day, it will take the place of having to attend on a Saturday or adding onto the end of the year. Schools do not have much option of adding onto the end of year now with the beach businesses’s ‘Save Our Summers’ law that went into effect. It mandates schools to open for students no earlier than August 25 and end no later than June 10.
