The Wake County Board of Commissioners passed a resolution Monday in support of an amendment to the state constitution that would define marriage as being between one man and one woman and ban civil unions. The amendment will appear on the May primary ballot.
Of course, this is just a formality and doesn’t really mean anything except that they show their position. But would you be interested in Henderson City Council, or the Vance County Board of Commissioners also taking up a position?
State Superintendent June Atkinson today announced that, thanks to the more than $700,000 raised by the North Carolina Governor’s School Foundation, 550 high school students will spend five weeks this summer taking their studies in math, science, language and the arts to the next level. After the General Assembly eliminated state funding to the Governor’s School in the 2011-13 budget, the Foundation launched a campaign to raise money to save the program. Because of these fundraising efforts, the Department of Public Instruction will be able to operate Governor’s School at both of its host campuses this summer.
Last night, the Henderson City Council held a meeting to discuss the water bill issues. Did you attend? On my lunch break at Bojangles yesterday I overheard a worker and customer discussing the meeting saying they planned to attend.
