March is Women’s History Month. The first state college for women was created this month in 1884 in Mississippi. Known as the Mississippi Industrial Institute and College, classes opened in the fall of the next year on the campus of a former college in Columbus. Now called the Mississippi University for Women, it has been ranked as one of the top schools in the annual list of “America’s Best Colleges.” Now coed, the school has many of the buildings on its imposing campus on the national register of historic places. Across the U.S. today, women students outnumber males on college campuses by 2.5 million. Profile America is produced by the U.S. Census Bureau: Measuring America—People, Places, and Our Economy.
Late work night for me Thursday, so not much news posted this morning. Will try to get some more of our submitted articles up later Friday
In the meantime, feel free to add your own news on our Open Lines!
I sure have been learning a lot during this GOP nomination process. One thing for sure is, the GOP leadership would much rather have someone they think can win in November than someone who is honest (but then I guess that’s politics no matter which party you are). If Romney gets the nomination, he’ll get blown out worse than Mcgovern or Mondale ever did (and they were hammered!)
